rating: 4 of 5 stars
From the publisher:

For antique document expert Adin Tredeger, finding a perfectly pristine five-hundred-year-old homoerotic journal is the highlight of a successful career. He’s smart, he’s cautious, and he’s determined keep it safe.

Donte Fedelta has only ever loved one man and the journal that celebrates their affair has finally resurfaced. He’s not above using every trick, including seduction and outright theft, to get it back. He knows Adin’s no match for a centuries-old vampire on a quest.

Adin Tredeger wants that journal. Donte wants it back. Neither man is prepared for something—or someone—they might want more.

This book has Maxfield’s trademark humor, and I enjoyed the puns, allusions, etc. A moment that made me grin was when Donte revealed that he was driving a Volvo and Adin laughed (think Edward, Twilight). I also liked the characters a great deal and loved the fact that her vampires aren’t exactly traditional vamps.

I’ll give this one a 4 because I had a few questions that I felt should have been answered, but weren’t.

Spoilers after the cut . . .

What is Tuan and Edward’s story? Will they have a book? Tuan said that his knowledge of vampires is what brought them together. How? Maxfield didn’t explain it.

What happened to Donte’s sons? He turned Santos because of the love he had for Asuelmo, but what about his own children? I know that Apollo was angry with Donte, but still Santos hated Donte and he turned him.

At first I found it difficult to accept that Adin so easily entrusted his life to Donte since he had known him for such a short time; however, the more I thought about it, I realized that he truly got to know Donte through the journal and was justified in his feelings.

Also, I consider this a HFN rather than a HEA. Will Donte turn Adin? I have issues with the whole I’m in love with an immortal storyline when the lover remains human. I don’t like to think about the eventual separation.
